Channelling her eclectic upbringing into every ounce of her craft, Patricia Baloge is on a mission to shake up the music scene. Her sound is a modern fusion of House, Afrohouse, Afropop and Synthwave, resulting in a seductive blend that features her instantly recognisable vocals. Her recent collaboration ‘Moood’ with enigmatic Afrohouse producer Hyenah has been making big waves since its release last month.
Patricia is set to share her forthcoming EP ‘Queen Of The Dawn’ on July 22, 2022. We had a chance to chat with her, and ask about the upcoming release, her musical inspiration, and future plans!
Hello Patricia Baloge! For those of our readers who are not familiar with your music, could you introduce yourself?
Hello! I’m Patricia Baloge, a Ghanaian electronic music producer and singer from France, currently living in New York.
You are getting ready to release your new EP ‘Queen Of The Dawn’. Could you tell us a little bit about this project? How did it come to life?
The idea of the ‘Queen of The Dawn’ EP came about slightly before the release of ‘Womb’, my previous EP. The track “Queen of The Dawn” was supposed to be a part of it, but did not feel right at the time. So I decided to make that song the main track of my next project.
What inspired you to write ‘Queen Of The Dawn’? What is the meaning behind your EP?
‘Queen of The Dawn’ is about overcoming darkness to finally see the light. It’s also a project centered around the topic of self worth. As a woman, and in my case, as a Black Woman, there’s always someone who tries to make you feel like you don’t deserve what you want. I produced this EP as my response to those negative ideas I’ve encountered along my journey.
Your artistic journey is quite an inspiring story! How was your transition from a DJ into a singer/songwriter?
I was always a singer/songwriter first. DJing is an art I stepped into, and I believe it was meant to carry me from one chapter to the next. Musically speaking, I learned a lot from it. DJing House music shaped my sound in so many ways. I don’t think I’d be producing the music I produce today if I had not stepped into it.
In your music, you very often deliver a fusion of genres and sounds. What influences your sound?
Being African definitely influences my sound. I bring that African touch in everything I do when it comes to the music I produce. And I happen to love Pop, House, Electronic and R&B music, so I naturally tend to blend these genres in a way that allows me to make it my own.
Where do you hope to see your music career in five years time? Do you have any specific goals you’d like to achieve?
I’d love to keep making music, to keep challenging myself and to keep growing my career as an artist.
What artists are on your dream list to collaborate with in the future?
There are so many but some of them are definitely Dev Hynes and Caroline Polachek.
Are you planning any live shows in 2022? What are some of your plans for the second half of the year?
Stay tuned for upcoming dates!
